Treatment Modalities

During session, our therapists will typically use techniques from the following treatment modalities:

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)

  • CBT is a structured, goal-oriented therapy that helps clients identify and challenge unhelpful thoughts and behaviors. Through collaborative sessions, clients learn practical strategies to reframe negative thinking patterns and develop healthier coping mechanisms. CBT is often used to treat anxiety, depression, and stress, offering clients tools they can apply in their daily lives to foster lasting change.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

  • ACT encourages clients to embrace their thoughts and feelings rather than avoid them, helping to build psychological flexibility. Using mindfulness, acceptance, and values-based action, clients learn to navigate challenging emotions and develop a more fulfilling life. Sessions focus on helping clients accept what they cannot control while committing to actions that align with their core values.

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)

  • DBT combines elements of CBT with mindfulness practices to help clients manage intense emotions, build healthier relationships, and reduce self-destructive behaviors. In DBT sessions, clients are taught skills in emotional regulation, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, and mindfulness, providing them with tools to live a more balanced and resilient life.

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)

  • EMDR is a specialised therapy designed to help individuals process traumatic memories. By using guided eye movements, clients can reduce the emotional intensity of distressing memories and reframe how they are stored in the brain. EMDR is often used for trauma, PTSD, and anxiety, allowing clients to move past disturbing experiences without being overwhelmed by them.

Solution Focused Therapy (SFT)

  • Solution-Focused Therapy is a short-term, goal-oriented approach that focuses on identifying solutions rather than dwelling on problems. In sessions, clients are encouraged to explore their strengths, resources, and past successes to build a positive future. SFT emphasizes what is working in a person’s life and helps them envision and achieve their preferred outcomes. This approach is practical, collaborative, and ideal for clients who want to see quick progress in specific areas of their lives.

  • Mindfulness therapy involves teaching clients how to focus on the present moment without judgment. In sessions, clients learn to observe their thoughts and feelings with curiosity, allowing them to reduce stress, enhance emotional regulation, and improve overall well-being. Mindfulness practices are often integrated into various therapeutic approaches to help clients develop greater self-awareness and mental clarity.

Mindfulness

  • Schema Therapy is an integrative approach that combines elements of cognitive, behavioral, and psychodynamic therapies to address deep-rooted emotional patterns or "schemas" that develop from unmet needs in childhood. These schemas can influence a person’s thoughts, behaviors, and relationships in adulthood. In sessions, clients work to identify and change these negative schemas, develop healthier coping strategies, and create more fulfilling life patterns. Schema Therapy is particularly helpful for long-standing emotional difficulties, personality disorders, and relationship challenges.
